LUNAR Event SNOWSHOE

The next Full Moon is Feb 18.

Not only a Full Moon, but a Super Moon! That means the Moon is closest in its orbit to the Earth at the same time as it appears Full.


Sign-up below and watch for Final Date and Time.

Feb 19 is the exact day of the Super Moon, but depending on the forecast and cloud cover, we will pick the day with the best viewing probability.

Moon Rise is scheduled for ~6:40pm that day on the ENE horizon.


Participants must provide ALL there own gear.

Suggest bringing a backpack with various layers, and a warm drink.

HEADLAMPS are also be a MUST for this Event.

The plan for these Events is to get out in the evening once a week, or every second week, and enjoy some of our MANY local areas snowshoeing.


Not all of these Event Postings will have a long lead-time, so watch regularly and sign-up if interested to get the most up-to-date information..

All Levels of Climbers are welcome.  As always, there is personal instruction for those who have never tried ice climbing.


Club Ice Climbing Gear will be available. Please indicate your needs on the Sign-Up Form.  All Participants should provide their own foot gear (boots and crampons - rent if required @Wilderness Supply).

As with all our events, we strive to accommodate all Members who signup as best we can with the available resources. 


For those who have previously ice climbed, are experienced in fitting crampons, AND own their own climbing boots, we have some Club crampons available to reserve on the Sign-Up Form.

Event Descriptors

Event Types

  • OPEN
    • These Events are Open to all current Section Members of all abilities and experience levels
    • Basic Personal Climbing Equipment is generally required by participants with only some Club Gear being made available
  • BEGINNER
    • Emphasis on Beginners who need extra help to learn climbing skills and safety.
    • Most equipment is provided as necessary, with footwear typically being the only exception.
    • Ice Climbing Gear Rentals available in Thunder Bay from Wilderness Supply Co.
    • First Time Ice Climbers should rent both boots and crampons for their first Event.
  • INTERMEDIATE
    • Intended for Members who have most of their own equipment and a solid grasp of fundamental climbing skills and situational safety 
    • Club 'Personal Gear' is typically not made available for these Events as Leadership demands are more involved. 
    • Club Ropes and Anchor materials provided. 
  • ADVANCED 
    • As the category name suggests, these Events are intended for only for the most competent and experienced climbers.
    • These Events will often be by Invitation Only for experienced Members and not necessarily be posted on the Section Events Calendar.
    • Participants must have a complete compliment of their own gear.
    • Participants should have also attended a series of prior Club Events and previously assisted in running Section Events. 
    • Club Ropes and Anchor materials provided.

ALL EVENTS are PET FREE, unless otherwise stated. 


Generally, participants should be over 16 years of age given the duration, locations, physical demands, equipment and endurance required to participate in our events.  

Please check with the specific Event Leader for any exceptions to this standard practice.


*** If  you have any life-threatening illnesses or pre-existing medical conditions, please inform the Event Leaders on the Confidential Sign-Up Forms for each Event you participate in.  Some locations of our events are quite isolated and EMS services can be delayed in their response times compared to urban settings.

Be sure to Sign Up for Events before the Cut-Off Date & Time listed.  Event Leaders need time to finalize plans, communicate with, and confirm participants for EACH Event.
